Ten days. Well, actually eleven. I optimistically want to count the arrival day but the Gesundheitsamt (health department) rounds up to midnight.
Oh well. What’s another 24 hours when you’ve already gone 240?
The biggest challenge to surviving the quarantine this time is actually not the cold weather. It’s the sunset. It’s legit fully dark here by 4:30pm! That’s rough.
In any case, I make sure to get my daily minimum run in during these fleeting daylight hours every day. It’s a good excuse to help the Little Ladies get some fresh air as well. Here is what it looked like:
December 10, 12:01am: Our quarantine is officially lifted. I consider doing a midnight run to celebrate the occasion. But The Wife and I are already through a couple glasses of wine and I was feeling comfortable on the couch.
The next day, however, I made sure to get out for something other than a 0.037 mile loop!
I think at this point even the most boring, aesthetically bland route brings me joy. It’s easy to get used to your daily routine. Back in Noblesville I have daily views of the lake from a freshly paved levee path – it’s pretty breathtaking when you stop to appreciate it. But when you are there everyday it’s easy to take for granted.
It’s a shame that it takes 10 days in quarantine to get this perspective. Hopefully I can keep this in mind for longer than last time.
In related news, I’m again able to join my trail running group here in Berlin. We plan to meet this weekend for a run up Teufelsberg. I haven’t been there yet so I’m stoked to check it out.
Until next time, cheers!
Chris
