Ironman Chattanooga Training

Every two years I sign up to do an Ironman.  I started with Ironman Arizona in 2012.  Then did Ironman Louisville in 2014 (when it was still a blazin’ hot race in August).  This year will take me down to Chattanooga, Tennessee in September.

I have a love-hate relationship with the 140.6 distance.  It’s long, so for me that means it’s slow.  I love the challenge of making it through such a long day.  But I hate the base-building it takes to get up to the mileage – particularly on the bike.  I’ve already run a marathon this year, so the running part I have down.  I still have a ways to go in the saddle.  For my previous two Ironman events I did at least 3 century rides leading up to race day.  With a now 3-month old baby around, I am curious about how those 6 hour rides will transpire.

For now, it’s all about base-building toward Ironman Muncie 70.3 in July.  That’s a 56 mile bike leg.  That is also 25 miles more than my longest ride thus far this year . . . time to get on my bike.
