What is your specialty?
We at November Project (NP) specialize in everything and nothing at all. As a free fitness movement, our specialty is motivation and inclusion accessible to everyone. On the physical fitness side of things, we focus on body-weight exercises and stairs running with an occasional outlier like yoga or a 6k (yes, 6, not 5) thrown in. We utilize our cityscape as an adult playground of sorts and encourage people to ‘just show up’ up regardless of fitness level, age, ethnicity, background, financial situation, or weather. Regarding that last part, we work out rain, snow, sleet, or shine and call ourselves #weatherproof. We’re also schedule-proof (maybe that’s a grammatical bridge too far?); Our intense half-hour circuit-style workouts are finished before many people even begin their day.
Where are you located?
We’re located in Indianapolis, IN. Our main site (every Wednesday in fact) is the stairs of the Indiana World War Memorial in downtown Indy. On Fridays, our other workout day, we meet at various places around the city–parks, waterway paths, monuments, etcetera–within our urban landscape.
Do you offer group activities (runs/teams/rides) or coaching?
All of our activities are group based and require no equipment or experience. Our activities are circuit-based and scalable. We do not offer individual coaching, but we individually and collectively motivate our urban athletes during workouts.
What is your most popular event that you host?
Our most popular event is also our most recurring event. It’s simply our Wednesday workout, the second one to be precise. Wednesdays we offer a 5:30am workout and a 6:15am workout. Though both sustain numbers, the “later” one typically edges out the earlier by a handful of people. Our roving 6:00am Friday workout is right there in the running for most popular nowadays too.
Tell us something fun/unique about your group/store.
Born in Boston (see the story below), November Project Indy is part of a global fitness movement linking people from cities the world over. Unlike many fitness groups, we charge nothing for our workouts. Nothing, ever. We rely solely on accountability among members and social-media-induced MOFO (fear of missing out) to drive our movement. Aside from that quirky business model, we also uniquely encourage our group to branch out and get involved in improving their community whether that be in a fitness-focused way or otherwise. We want to see our city grow in a good way, for the betterment of ways of life here in Indianapolis. Bottom line, we’re all about community. We invite you to #justshowup (literally, that’s all you have to do) and see for yourself! Until then, check us out online on our Instagram and Facebook pages!
