Happy #MedalMonday everyone! Welcome to a special Thanksgiving edition of my #MedalMondayMoments video series – where I grab a medal from my box of bling, give you a super quick race review, and then share a story from my experience at the event.
I hope you are enjoying a nice start to this shortened work week. I know I feel like I have a million things to cram into 3 days, but we’ll get through it. We will get to that turkey. But more importantly we will get to those awesome Thanksgiving day races. Today I am talking about my favorite local turkey day race – the Fit Livin’ Thanksgiving Day Run in Noblesville. Alright, let’s get to the Super-Quick Race Review video (text version below):
The Super-Quick Race Review
Like all thanksgiving day races it’s just a great way to start the day. You get in a few good miles before you overeat and do it all for a good cause. The Fit Livin’ event benefits Hemophilia of Indiana.
What stands out to me about this event is their pumpkin prizes. They place several pumpkins throughout the course for you to pick up. They vary in size and where they are placed, so you can pick one up early or closer to the finish.
If you cross the finish line with a pumpkin you’ll win some sort of prize. It adds a fun element to the event – whether you pick one up yourself or watch someone else try to lug one around with however many miles to go.
Other highlights for this event include a great kids run, finishers medals for all participants, and this year for the 10th anniversary they have these great hoodies. And I love this hoodie. Trust me this is one you will wear – its not gonna just end up in that drawer with all your other race shirts.
The Moment
I ran this race a few years ago when I lived right across the street from the start line. I wasn’t filming the race that year, so I decided to pick up a pumpkin about 2 miles into the course. Not knowing exactly what the prizes were for doing this, I carried that heavy thing through a couple more snowy miles to the finish. They don’t publish what prizes you get for what the various pumpkins out there, so it’s always a surprise when you get the finish.
After the race they gave out the pumpkin prizes and I got an office chair! This is the chair I sit in every day at my computer. I edited this video above in this chair. How awesome is that?
Well that’s it for this week’s Medal Monday Moment – Happy Thanksgiving. Get out there and run this Thursday and I will see you next week!
Cheers,
Chris
