Monumental Marathon | #MedalMondayMoments

Happy #MedalMonday everyone! This week my #MedalMondayMoment comes from the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. Check out my Super-Quick Race Review video here (text version below):

The Super-Quick Race Review

Aside from the great fall weather you can have at this race, the main reason I love this event is because it’s simply the best tour of Indianapolis that you can do on foot. The course takes you by tons of Indy sights. You run past Lucas Oil Stadium – home of the Indianapolis Colts, around monument circle, up Mass. Ave where you can check out great restaurants to hit up after the race. Once you get further north you run by beautiful historic homes in the Meridian Kessler neighborhood on your way up to Broad Ripple, you then swing by the campus of Butler University, down through Newfields – previously known as the Indianapolis Museum of  Art (maybe its still called that, im not really sure . . .). Finally, you finish by running right in front of the Indiana State House.

This race is flat, fast, and usually on the cooler side since it always takes place on the first Saturday in November. For the best deal on registration, mark your calendar for New Years Day when they open up just 1,000 spots at a discounted rate.

The Moment

The moment that stands out to me in this marathon is at mile 23.5 when you turn the corner from Fall Creek Parkway onto Meridian Street. You’ve just completed the toughest stretch of the race, mile 19 to 23 where many people hit the wall – myself included! At this turn you are finally on the home stretch, you can see the downtown skyline and you have less than 3 miles to go. So you really feel each step getting you closer to the finish line.

Ok that’s it for this Medal Monday Moment. Enjoy your recovery and I will see you next week!

Cheers,

Chris
