I prefer longer distances, so I don’t usually get excited about 5k events or the 5k finisher’s medals that seem standard now. But when I saw the medal for the OktoberFAST 5k in Indy, well . . . I knew my wife and I had to sign up.
Just look at this thing! It’s lederhosen AND a bottle opener!
For those of you who don’t know, my wife’s maiden name is Ledderhos. She’s from Germany and shortly after we met she ran the previous version of this event. At the time it was called the Lederhosen Lauf (Lauf = German for run). She signed up for the facebook photo op and the lederhosen-themed bib and shirt.
When we saw that this race returned with a strong lederhosen finisher medal we both immediately wanted it.
The event ended up being great. We have a tradition of going downtown for Indy Germanfest anyway. The race is the same morning and registration for the 5k includes a free beer and entry into Germanfest – no brainer!
My mother-in-law is also in town from Berlin. I’m happy to say that her first 5k event was here in Indiana and just so happened to be German-themed. Awesome!
Ok, well that’s all for now. Here are a couple race photos that show some behind the scenes action from the video:
Prost!
